Scarlett Antonia, Artistic Director

scarlett antoniaMs. Antonia brings to the newly formed Antonia's Academy for the Performing Arts a wealth of experience and expertise in the performing arts. Starting her career with classical ballet training, becoming a professional dancer by age 13 and at 18, touring nationally as an equity performer with the famed director/choreographer Peter Gennaro. However, Ms.Antonia had a short lived performing career when she became bed-ridden after a serious car accident. She used her knowledge of ballet to put together an intensive rehabilitation program that got her back on her feet and dancing once again.

Her passion for the art developed into choreography and theater as she went on to choreograph/direct internationally, over 200 performances, at many prestigious venues, such as Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, and Sesame Street for television. Her outreach has gone to dance companies, art centers, opera companies, theater companies, schools, and fashion shows. Ms. Antonia has choreographed routines for competition not only in dance but also for gymnasts, and skaters. Her strong technical base in classical ballet has given her the foundation necessary for her creative artistry to flourish in many areas and has provided the discipline necessary to produce a final product.

Ms. Antonia began her teaching career at an early age and has taught all levels of ballet and jazz with companies such as the Pueblo Ballet, Ballet Minnesota, along with Art Centers, and Universities. Before coming to reside in New York, Ms. Antonia had her own training school in Minnesota with a professional and Apprentice Company. However, her professional career was always calling her to NYC, so it seemed a natural move to make her home in New York. Once settled in New York she went on to choreograph, write and direct numerous productions. Some of her favorite productions were “Ushers Onstage at Lincoln Center”, “Wonderland Follies” and Peekskill Private I’s. Her love for the performing arts and education also lead her to develop and direct numerous performing arts camps that include Kaufman Cultural Center in NYC.

Ms. Antonia now resides in Peekskill and has opened her artist loft for gatherings, Showcases, Open Mic Events, staged readings, and rehearsals. She has worked with the School District to develop a theater arts program and directed such shows as Grease, The Sound of Music, and The Crucible.

Ms. Antonia believes in the creative process and in providing opportunities for students and seasoned artists to have their voice heard. She believes that a strong technical foundation can give you the freedom and confidence necessary to develop your individual artistry. Ms.Antonia relishes the opportunity to pass on her knowledge and love of the performing arts with a professional training school for the dedicated student. She believes in the joy of creative expression in theater and dance and always welcomes,

New Voices, New Works, and New Audiences.
